I am the mother of 3 boys, ages 13, 9, and 6 years. After the birth of our 3rd son, we decided that we were done having kids. We talked about all the options and decided to go with the Essure procedure as that seemed best for all. Who wouldn’t want a quick recovery time. What the doctors didn’t tell me was that I would have to receive the Depo shot to ensure that I didn’t have a period for 3 months to make sure that this procedure worked. They also didn’t test me for a nickle allergy. I had my procedure done in 2008 and since then has a rash on my face that the cause is unknown. I also have headaches pretty much everyday. Sometimes they get so bad that I can’t even see. I have really painful and heavy periods to the point that I spend 2 days of my cycle sleeping as I haven’t the strength for anything else. I have also been depressed because of my lack of energy for any activity. I didn’t even know that there were these side effects or that there was a possibilty that I could be allergic to the implants. I have recently found out about this information and am going to print it up and go to my family doctor to see what can be done. I don’t want to have something in my body that is causing me to be sick like this. I wish I had been tested before hand. I wish that I was armed with all possible information before I made the decision to have this done. I have 3 very active children and all I want to do is to be able to play with them. I used to be very active myself and now have no energy for it and it rips at me. I hope that my story make women think before they decide to get this done. I would have rather had weeks of recovery time instead of that hour and dealing with the consequences for the rest of my life. Thank you for reading my story.
